Kingman city invests in Opticom pre-emption technology

St Paul, Mn

Global Traffic Technologies (GTT) has contracted with the city of Kingman, Arizona, for the implementation of its Opticom GPS pre-emption solution, which works alongside intersection controllers to ensure emergency vehicles can move through intersections rapidly and safely.

The Opticom solution includes a GPS component for location and wireless communications between authorised vehicles and the intersections they approach. When an emergency vehicle needs to navigate an intersection quickly and safely, a request is sent to the intersection's controller ahead of its arrival, turning the light green and clearing a path to enable the vehicle's safe passage.

Kingman is located in north western Arizona and is situated in the Haulapai Valley. Kingman was established in the early 1880s and has served as the county seat of Mohave County since 1887. The section of historic Route 66 running through Kingman is rumoured to be the longest remaining preserved stretch of old U.S. Route 66 left in the United States.

GTT President Doug Roberts said, "We are excited to get started on the implementation in Kingman. Our system will help to improve response times and reduce the risk of intersection crashes."
