Metronet appoints new business development manager

Manchester, UK
Metronet has announced the appointment of Kate Rennicks to the position of Business Development Manager with a particular brief to focus upon public sector security. The appointment marks an interesting move from the public to the private sector with Rennicks having previously been CCTV Services Manager for Manchester City Council.

Metronet, a strategic partner to Greater Manchester Police, provides wireless IP connectivity to five of the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester. Ms Rennicks is tasked with managing existing accounts, promoting services to additional Local Authorities and developing business with ancillary public sector organisations such as Housing Associations.

Commenting on the appointment, John Earley, Strategic Development Director claimed, “It was a significant achievement for Metronet to secure the services of Kate: she is widely held with enormous regard in the national public sector community and is able to bring a unique insight to our business development at a time of obvious enormous financial stress in the public sector”.

Metronet believes that the present financial dilemma can present an opportunity for it to expand its business in the public sector, with a potential to displace traditional legacy network operators with its last-mile wireless technology that offers equivalent quality of service at a fraction of the cost. It is also adopting a pragmatic approach to existing contracts and is working in partnership with its public sector customers to assist reducing costs further.

Noting the opportunity, Ms Rennicks said, “There is no doubt that there is unprecedented pressure to reduce costs in the public sector: but important work must continue and I know that it will albeit with substantial efficiency improvements. I plan to work with colleagues to implement initiatives that will enable significant cuts to be made to technology budgets and I have to say that I relish the challenge given that I now have the ability to implement my long held vision from the supplier side”.

Kate’s initial focus will be to implement new CCTV pilot schemes in Greater Manchester and promote Metronet services to local authorities in the West Midlands.
