Global anti-drone market to top $10 billion by 2030

San Francisco, Ca

The global anti-drone market size is expected to reach USD 10.57 billion by 2030, expanding at a CAGR of 28.1% from 2023 to 2030, according to a new study by Grand View Research, Inc.

The application of drones is becoming progressively mainstream which increases the risk of safety and discretion. These threats are faced by both noncombatants and defence personnel as drones can be remotely operated or autonomous in the form of unauthorised unmanned drones. The market demand is expected to grow due to the requirement of anti-UAV systems in sensitive military areas to provide security against any terrorism or illegal activities. Moreover, the ease of access of small-sized drones has caused a significant increase in the investment of the anti-drone market.

The sale of remote-controlled drones is legal based on location, however there are many strict no-fly zones which the common public is unaware of. The need to protect the restricted airspace zones is expected to drive the growth of the anti-drone market. Moreover, anti-UAV systems are increasingly being adopted by military and commercial entities to guard their private spaces.

The research determines that the North American market accounted for the largest share in 2022 due to the increasing safety and security threats in the region. The ease of purchasing and using a drone within the less stringent regulations is also anticipated to be a driving factor for the anti-drone market in North America. As the threat of rogue drone surveillance or attack increases, a growing number of commercial users are expected to add to the demand for anti-UAV systems and software in the region

Some key findings in figures

  • On the basis of type, the UAV based segment is expected to record the highest CAGR of around 31% over the forecast period as a result of the increasing UAV threat in sensitive military areas
  • On the basis of technology, the thermal image segment is expected to record highest CAGR of around 32.0% over the forecast period, owing to the advancements in SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR technology
  • Based on mitigation, the destructive system accounted for the highest market share of over 90%, owing to the rising demand for laser system, missile effectors and electronic counter measure system
  • On the basis of end-use, the military and defense segment dominated the market in 2022 with a share of around 58% due to the increased adoption of anti-drone system to counter terror activities.
